Punch and Judy Mr. Punch originated in Italy in the 16th century. He was brought to England during the celebrations of the Restoration in 1622; and acquired a wife, Judy. Since then, the drama of Punch and Judy has remained the same. Punch treats marriage, authority and death with the same disrepect. At the end of Act One, Punch beats Judy to death and sings:
